Many Ways to Thank Your Sponsor

We are very fortunate to have many generous sponsors throughout our eight-county readership area. Sponsors are amazing people – people who demonstrate their commitment to literacy and education by helping us provide classroom newspapers to other amazing people – you…the teachers!

Here are some ways that you and your students can have fun, show your appreciation and make your sponsor feel special.

• Ask your sponsor to visit your class and talk about his or her business. If you have a career day in your school that would be the perfect time!

• Younger students can draw pictures for the sponsor. Sponsors love to hang these types of things up in their place of business.

• Let the parents know who the sponsor is so that they may do the same.

• Make a video of the class with the kids thanking the sponsor and telling the sponsor a little bit about themselves and their classroom activities.

• Invite your sponsor in on “newspaper day” to see how the newspapers are being used. Do an activity that the sponsor can do too.

• Younger students can also create a big thank-you poster with handprints and send it to the sponsor, another great piece to hang up!

• Schedule a field trip to your sponsor’s place of business.

• Make your sponsor a thank you poster using letters and words cut out from the newspaper. This is a great activity for the younger ones!

• If you have younger students, invite your sponsor in to read to the class.

• Take a photo of your class a put it in the middle of a poster and have each student sign it.

• Take a photo of your class and put it on a T-shirt or frame it.

• Write a letter to the editor of Bangor Daily News publicly thanking your sponsor. It is a great writing exercise and it may be published!

• Make a collage out of favorite pictures and stories from the newspaper.

• Have each student write thank-you notes (not just once, but throughout the year) to the sponsor. Be creative, design cards or notepaper that identify your classroom and the sponsor.

• Support your sponsor by shopping at or using the services of your sponsor.

• Have the students design a thank-you in the form of a newspaper’s front page. The headline could read KIDS FROM ABC SCHOOL THANK XYZ BUSINESS. You could include pictures of the class and the articles could be about how the newspaper is used in the class.
